597 2017/06/02 Repair/maintenance aptiko In January 2015, one of the two modems connecting the station to the network broke down (it was two "leased line" modems, one at the station and one at the Hydraulics building, connected through a twisted pair set of cables provided by the NOC). After consideration, the idea of wifi bridges was promoted. To make a long story short, two wifi bridges were bought; one was installed at the station, and the other at the roof of the Civil Engineering Administration building. A Raspberry Pi was also bought and installed at the station. The Raspberry is connected to the logger through its USB port and a USB-to-serial adapter, and it is also connected to the wifi bridge through its Ethernet port. Today these works were finished and the station is working again. It was found that the logger's clock is about 1 hour 50 minutes ahead of time. This was fixed, but it also meant that some records had to be thrown away. 594 2013/06/30 Repair/maintenance aptiko Mr. Kouvas serviced the station. The main temperature and humidity sensor, which was malfunctioning, was replaced. The main rainfall sensor was found to be blocked, probably since a long time ago. The internal tipping bucket was immovable. Some cleaning was performed, however the funnel must be changed as half the system that leads the water to the bucket was removed. The second rainfall sensor was also out of order. The mercury switch was burnt. The second switch available in the sensor was connected. The second temperature sensor is still out of service and was not replaced yet, as it's not in stock. The second wind direction sensor is also not working. New pictures were taken and the heights of the sensors were measured.
585 2011/07/29 Station Malfunction aptiko In the morning of 2011-07-29, the logger started malfunctioning: when downloading data, it also sent booting reports ("Initializing Zeno 3200") and symbols like "EOF" together with the data, resulting in a corrupted data file. It also started to skip logging of some records. After investigating the issue, it turned out that the external power supply (and battery charger) provided a voltage of about 8V instead of the nominal 12V. A new supply/charger was installed on 2011-08-09, around 13:40 EEST. The corrupted data file was cleaned up.
584 2010/09/15 Repair/maintenance The logger was replaced with another of the same type. Due to unexpected technical problems and errors in the initial configuration, the new logger measurements for the first two weeks were lost.
582 2010/09/08 Repair/maintenance The sonic wind sensor, whose measurements were problematic, was calibrated.
583 2010/07/03 Station Malfunction Around 16:00 EEST, during a storm, the stations's modem, which is used to transmit the measurements, was damaged, and also the logger's serial interface. The cause seems to be a thunder-induced shock on the telecommunications line. The modem was replaced, but because of the logger damage communication was not possible.
579 2009/10/13 Repair/maintenance A new logger was installed in 13 October 2009, but it did not work for a few days because of a minor cabling problem, which was fixed on 19 October. Since then the station works properly.
575 2009/08/19 Interruption The usual instability in the logger's function caused an interruption on 2009-08-19 12:20 EEST; the logger was reconfigured on 2009-08-31 11:20 EEST. It then operated until 2009-09-01 11:00 EEST, when it stopped again, and it was reconfigured on 2009-09-04 17:00 EEST. It then operated until 2009-09-06 15:50 EEST and stopped again. It was judged that there is not much point in reconfiguring it all the time with the worsening instability problem, and it was decided to stop the operation of the meteorological station until a new logger is installed.

562 2008/11/06 Repair/maintenance During maintenance work by Mr Andreas, it was found out that none of the two rain sensors was working. One of them had a cable cut internally, and the other one was working properly but the logger was not recording the indications. The latter problem was corrected when logging was stopped and restarted. Mr Andreas is of the opinion that the logger is reaching the end of its useful life (it has other problems as well; for example, its screen is not working).
561 2008/10/18 Interruption On 2008-10-18, at about 08:00 EET (09:00 EEST), there was a power failure. Power was back at 09:37 EET (10:37 EEST). The logger did not lose its configuration but it stopped logging. The status report says "battery failed". The logger was set back to logging at 2008-10-20 09:00. There was minor rainfall on 2008-10-19.
560 2008/07/26 Interruption For unknown reason, some time after 2008-07-26 21:00 EET, the logger lost its configuration and stopped logging. It was corrected and enabled on 2008-07-29 10:20 EET. During the interruption there was no precipitation.
559 2008/02/04 Interruption At 2008-02-04 23:20 EET, due to unknown reason, the logger lost its configuration and stopped logging. It was set to work again the next day at 11:10 EET. During the interruption there was no rainfall.
558 2008/01/25 Interruption At 2008-01-25 12:40 EET, due to unknown reason, the logger lost its configuration and stopped logging. It was set to work again at 15:40 EET. During the interruption there was no rainfall.
557 2007/12/28 Interruption At 2007-12-26 04:00 EET, due to unknown reason, the logger lost its configuration and stopped logging. It was set to work again at 2007-12-28 13:50 EET. During the interruption there was rainfall, but not intense.
556 2007/12/06 Repair/maintenance Two gentlemen from SCIENTACT performed maintenance. Operation was interrupted between 13:50 and 17:30 EET. Both rainfall sensors were found to be clogged. It is thus possible that the alternative sensor did not measure correctly, or that it did not properly record the maximum rainfall intensity (maybe the water collected and dripped slowly). The main sensor was not working at all. Both sensors are now working.
548 2007/10/05 Interruption At 2007-10-02 13:40 EET, due to unknown reason, the logger lost its configuration and stopped logging. It was set to work again at 2007-10-05 10:00 EET. During the interruption there was no rainfall.
549 2007/05/14 Interruption Data lost from 2007-05-13 00:00 to 2007-15-14 12:10 EEST because logger lost its configuration. There was no rainfall and the day was sunny. The day was warm with a maximum of 27-28°C according to meteonet.
550 2007/02/17 Interruption Operation was interrupted for aweek, from 2007-02-17 00:20 to 2007-02-23 12:40. Brief investigation indicates rainfall, in 2007-02-17, between 0.5 and 2 mm. During the rest of the missing interval there was no rainfall.
551 2006/12/04 Station Malfunction The main temperature sensor (id=10, timeseries id=232) is in error. Since about 09:00-10:00 EET, the sensor started to deviate by about 0.5-0.6 degrees. Since this day the deviation gradually increases and by 2007-06-26 has reached 3 degrees. In addition, at random moments, the deviation briefly returns to normal.
552 2006/11/11 Interruption Measurments from 05:50 to 14:40 EET (2006-11-11) have been lost because of a configuration error. During that interval there was strong wind, fast drop of temperature, and no rainfall.
554 2006/09/28 Interruption At 01:00 EEST the logger lost its configuration, and was set to work again at 11:20 EEST. During the missing interval there appears to have been minor rainfall (3-4 mm at Penteli Station, 1.3 mm by Meteonet).

545 2006/07/24 Interruption At 00:00, due to unknown reason, the logger lost its configuration and stopped logging. It was set to work again at 15:20 EET. During the interruption there was no rainfall. In addition, the factor for the new wind speed sensor (2241) has been corrected and since then its measurements are correct. The raw measurements from 14 July until the interruption can be converted to correct ones with the formula (x-0.4)*2.55/1.25+0.4, where x is the raw measurement.
544 2006/07/14 Repair/maintenance Mr Kouvas determined that the station had been vandalized. The cables had been moved, the base of the second temperature and humidity sensor had been crooked, and the alternative wind speed sensor was hit, probably by a stone. He replaced the first wind speed sensor (which had been out of order since 13 April) with a new one, but during the first few days of its operation it was incorrectly calibrated (see next entry).
541 2006/07/06 Station Malfunction The day was sunny and there was absolutely no rainfall. The rainfall recorded by one rain sensor around noon did not happen. A few hours later the alternative wind speed sensor stopped recording, for unknown reason, and there are now no wind speed measurements, since the first wind speed sensor is also out of service since a few months.
536 2006/05/10 Configuration change Because of errors in configuration details (value range and average value), the accuracy of barometric pressure measurements since 2006-05-08 is in steps of 2.56 mBar until today 09:20 EET, and steps of 0.64 mBar from then until 14:40 EET. Thereafter, when the last correction was made, measurement granularity is at 0.01 mBar, which is better than the accuracy of the sensor.
547 2006/05/08 Configuration change The barometric pressure sensor configuration was fixed (see also log entry of 21/01/2006). From 15:00 EET measurements are correct. The wrong pressure measurements from 21/01/2006 to 08/05/2006 can be converted with the formula P=800+260/460*(Pw-600), where Pw is the wrong measurement.
543 2006/04/13 Station Malfunction Since 18:40 EET one of the wind speed sensors (id=16) is not recording properly; its measurements stay at zero (actually at 0.4, which is its lowest measurement). During the servicing of 14 July 2006 it was found that the sensor (which was changed with a new one) smelled of burnt plastic; however lightning seems an unlikely cause as the day was sunny.
546 2006/01/21 Interruption At 20:50 EET, for unknown reason, the logger lost its configuration and continued logging with a default configuration. Rainfall is included in the 7 variables it went on logging. However, because it was logging 6 times per minute, it went out of memory the next day at 16:20 and stopped logging. It was reconfigured and started logging again at 23/01/2006 00:10. From the beginning of the interruption until 22/01/2006 16:20 it logged 21 mm of rainfall; more specifically, it logged 1 mm in each of the times 22/01/2006 10:31, 10:47, 10:53, 10:59, 11:03, 11:13, 11:46, 11:58, 12:03, 12:17, 12:22, 12:28, 12:42, 12:49, 12:56, 13:11, 13:22, 13:49, 14:37, 14:41, and 14:50. From 22/01/2006 16:20 to 23/01/2006 00:10 there was significant rainfall but there are no measurements. In addition, when the logger was reconfigured, the configuration for the old barometric pressure sensor was entered rather than for the new one (it had changed on 09/12/2005), resulting in the pressure measurements being logged incorrectly. This problem was fixed on 08/05/2006 (see that entry in the station log).
540 2005/12/09 Repair/maintenance At 09:00 EET the station was stopped for maintenance. Among other things, the barometric pressure sensor was replaced. The station was turned on again at 12:40. Some measurements during startup time are wrong. There was no rainfall during the interruption.
539 2005/11/24 Station Malfunction At 12:20 EET the barometric pressure sensor started to give wrong measurements.
537 2005/09/27 Weather observation Minor hail from about 17:30 EEST to 18:00. Occasional 1-cm pieces.
538 2004/01/20 Interruption At 16:10 EET the logger lost its configuration. I added it the next day and it is logging again since 17:30 (due to some coincidence there was a server crash on the morning of 21 Jan 2004, which held me from fixing the station because I was fixing the server). Some measurements at restart time are wrong. There was no rainfall during the interruption.
535 2003/08/04 Interruption At 13:20 EEST the logger configuration was lost for unknown reasons. The logger was reconfigured two days later, 6 August 2003 16:00 EEST. Some measurements during that time are incorrect. There was no rainfall during the interruption.
519 2003/05/05 Repair/maintenance We removed the sunshine duration sensor (Delta-T BF2), which does not operate properly, and sent it to SCIENTACT.
518 2003/04/21 Repair/maintenance On 15 April we removed the sunshine sensor (Delta-T BF2), because it was malfunctioning. We opened it, let it dry, and renewed batteries and desiccant. We put it back on 21/04/2003, about 17:00 EEST.
517 2003/02/19 Interruption At 04:30 EET the logger lost all settings due to unknown reasons. The problem was corrected at 10:30 EET. During the interruption there was negligible amount of snow.
516 2002/09/06 Repair/maintenance The rainfall recorded between 14:00 and 14:20 EET is not real, but a test of the rain sensors. More information will be made available here later.

The weather was variable, and since rainfall is a phenomenon with increased locality at this time of year, it's hard to talk with certainty; however, all evidence suggests there was no rainfall during the interruption.
514 2002/07/03 Interruption In 2002-07-02 14:08 EET we turned off the modem of the lab as part of a general shutdown due to a scheduled power interruption. The usual problem caused the logger to stop logging, and to require resetting. It was set to function again on 2002-07-03 09:50 EET. During that time, some of the variables have been logged incorrectly.
513 2002/06/10 Interruption At 2002-06-09 18:00 EET, the logger's memory filled up, and the logger stopped logging, because overwrite mode was off (off is the default, and we forgot to correct it the previous time the logger blacked out). It was corrected to on and the logger started functioning again at 2002-06-10 11:40 EET. Some measurements during that time are incorrect. There was no rainfall during the interruption.
512 2002/05/17 Repair/maintenance The logger's 6 alcaline batteries were replaced. It is believed that the recent two interruptions were due to aged batteries.
523 2002/05/15 Interruption Some time after 10:10 EET the logger stopped functioning for unknown reasons. The configuration was reloaded and operation restarted at 11:20 EET. No precipitation or other notable phenomenon occurred during that hour. Certain measurements recorded during restart time are incorrect.
534 2002/05/08 Interruption On 2002-05-07, some time after 03:00 EET, the logger stopped functioning for unknown reasons. It started functioning again the next day, 2002-05-08 12:20 EET, when the configuration was reloaded. No data has been recorded between these two times, but no precipitation occurred. Certain measurements recorded during restart time are incorrect.
521 2002/04/26 Weather observation 3 mm hailstones at about 12:30 EET.
531 2002/01/04 Weather observation 5 cm of snow from 10:30 to 13:00. It continued to snow in the next two days (5/01 and 6/01), with a total depth of about 40 cm. There was no rainfall during these three days, thus any measurements by the rain gauges are due to the snow and are unreliable.
529 2001/11/02 Interruption Due to works in the server room the modem had to be temporarily switched off. Due to a known problem in the system the logger stopped logging. Thus, there are no data from 11:00 to 12:40. In 12:50 some variables are wrong. There was no rainfall during that period.
530 2001/11/02 Configuration change Wind direction was set to sampling every 5 minutes, storage every 10 minutes, for both sensors. This means that the logger produced the average of two measurements, which is incorrect; for example, if the two measurements were 355 and 5, the average would be 180, whereas the correct value would be 0. Because of this problem, all wind direction measurements for these two sensors (15 and 17) are unreliable until now. The configuration was corrected a few minutes after 17:20 EET, so that sampling from one value only is performed. Due to stopping and restarting of logging, some variables at 17:30 are incorrect.
528 2001/10/26 Interruption A few seconds after 10:00:00 EET, while the server room was being painted, a heavy object fell and cut the modem's cable. The violent loss of communication resulted in logger malfunction. Thus, from 26/10/2001 10:00:00 until 29/10/2001 15:10 EET there are no humidity and air pressure data, and no data from the solar radiation sensor (id=13). The rest of the data is OK, including the pyranometer's data (id=9). The problem was corrected with a soft reset of the logger. At 29/10/2001 15:20 EET, which is the first record after reset, some variables are wrong, but from 15:30 EET the logger functions correctly.
520 2001/09/29 Interruption Due to server upgrade, I switched off the modem in the building. It seems that the modem at the other end of the line sent a signal which the logger interpreted as a command to stop logging. As a result, there are no data from 12:50 EET, when I switched off the modem, until 18:00 EET, when I realized and corrected the problem. There was no rainfall during that interval. Until the morning of 4/5/1999 the sensors were functioning with the pole down. The rainfall recorded from 1 to 10/5 is sensor testing; no rainfall has actually occurred.
